The Flood Re Academy is a self-paced online course aimed at anyone who needs to understand how the Flood Re Scheme operates as part of their work. The course consists of five specially created modules which are accredited by the Chartered Insurance Insititute (CII) and the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (CILA). Upon successful completion of the Academy, users can log up to one hour of CPD time.

Participants are taken on a journey to understand Flood Re’s purpose, how the Scheme helps householders and how we are helping to make homes more resilient to flooding. Topics covered include:

  • Why Flood Re has a limited lifespan.
  • The rationale and principles behind which properties and insurance policies are covered by the scheme and which are not.
  • The role and benefits of PFR measures, the options available, and the need for professional installation, particularly as the UK home insurance market transitions to risk-based pricing in 2039.
  • Using PFR measures to protect the structure of a property.
  • Activities already undertaken and planned by Flood Re to fulfil its obligation to exit the home insurance market in 2039.

Learning objectives:

  1. Explain why Flood Re was created, how it operates, and who benefits from the scheme.
  2. Identify the eligibility criteria for the Flood Re scheme.
  3. Summarise the principles behind the Build Back Better scheme.
  4. Describe the measures householders can take in their outside space to help mitigate the risk of flooding.
